PICC Insertion

A Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) is a long, thin tube that’s inserted through the arm of the patient’s vein and passed through the larger veins near their heart. This gives the patient’s health care provider access to the large central veins near the heart, which is generally used to give medicine or liquid nutrition. Using a PICC line can help avoid the frequent pain from sticking needles into the patient, reducing the risk of irritation to the smaller veins in their arm. Inserting a PICC line is a delicate procedure and requires the expertise of a vascular access specialist.
